Improving care for birthing parents
The 4th Trimester Project is working to change the way the US cares for new mothers. We believe that respectful, patient-centered care, where all people feel heard and have their needs addressed in a timely manner, is not only important – but life-saving. Optimal clinical support in the early days, weeks, and months after childbirth is important for the health and well-being of new parents and their families.
We hope to support clinical and system change to improve care for moms and the care experience for providers. This work is essential – especially for families who experience the greatest risk of sickness and death while giving birth.
In this section, you will find resources and tools to support your team in communicating with and caring for birthing people. These tools are aimed to support shared-decision making, postpartum visit prioritization and alignment, addressing bias, educating about actions to take in crises, and more. Find resources, training, tools, and guides that can be co-branded and shared with your healthcare teams.
Our team collaborates with clinics in North Carolina and is in part funded by the HRSA Maternal and Child Health Bureau through a contract with the NC Division of Public Health, Women’s Health Branch as part of the NC Maternal Health Innovation Project.
