My Postpartum Plan

Parents-to-be typically spend some time creating a labor and delivery plan. They usually do not think as much about the supplies, support, and plan for the days, weeks, and months once baby arrives. While the idea makes sense and plans are important, this can be harder than you think, especially when resources and supports are limited. It is common for new parents to feel “stuck” around planning for the new baby and situation. Take it one step at a time.

New mothers’ wishes and needs are more important than what other people think or assume they need! Communication is not always easy but is best. Too many women are robbed of the joy of early motherhood as they are trying to accommodate and please others.

Most importantly, it is okay to ask for the support you need. It can be helpful to prioritize what you will need after childbirth, broken down by recovery supplies, food/meal, household needs, ways visitors can be helpful, and resources or tools to get what you need. This section is meant to help you and your “village” understand how they might best support your growing family.

Welcome to NewMomHealth.com™

We envision a world where every woman receives the social, emotional, physical, and economic support she needs to successfully transition through the postpartum period and into her new identity and life as a mother. Health care systems, businesses, and society should value and respect women not only for what they bring to families, communities, and nations but also for who they are in and of themselves.
