My Job or School

The United States is in a maternal health and childcare crisis. While many are fighting for better support for new families, much more needs to be addressed and done to help families thrive. Many parents find that having a baby reshapes what is possible and most important in their lives.  Most parents find the logistics of getting into a new routine can feel daunting. Too many mothers are forced back to work before they are recovered and ready to return. When mothers return to their job or education, the details and feelings can be overwhelming.

The United States is the only developed nation in the world – and only one of two countries total – that does not offer paid maternity leave . While some cities, states and businesses are stepping it up and providing paid family leave, only 27 percent of new families have access to paid time off through their employer for recovery and adjustment. There can also be pressure, particularly for partners, to not take time off of work. And, finding affordable, high-quality childcare in many communities across the U.S. is very difficult and stressful. America has a long way to go to support new families. 4th Trimester Project hopes to work with families and other great organizations such as MomsRising to create change in our country.

But for now, this section is intended to offer resources that may be helpful. Have resources and solutions to share? Please let us know!

Welcome to NewMomHealth.com™

We envision a world where every woman receives the social, emotional, physical, and economic support she needs to successfully transition through the postpartum period and into her new identity and life as a mother. Health care systems, businesses, and society should value and respect women not only for what they bring to families, communities, and nations but also for who they are in and of themselves.
