My Postpartum Plan

Parents-to-be typically spend some time creating a labor and delivery plan. It can be hard to think beyond childbirth, but mentally, physically, and logistically preparing for postparum can ease the transition to life as a new parent. Creating a plan for things like supplies, support, and potential care needs for the days, weeks, and months once baby arrives is important. It is common for new parents to feel “stuck” around planning for the new baby and situation. Take it one step at a time.

New families’ wishes and needs are important, and support looks different for different families. Communication is not always easy, but being clear about what support looks like for YOU will help others be there for you in a way that feels helpful, rather than intrusive. Too many women and families are robbed of the joy of early motherhood as they are trying to accommodate and please others. Asking for help is a sign of STRENGTH. Normalize asking for the support you need.

We have created customizable postpartum support plans for families to prioritize wants and needs after childbirth. We encourage parents to fill out these plans during pregnancy and share with loved ones to help start conversations about how you want to feel cared for.

In this section, we have tools and information meant to help you and your “village” understand how they might best support your growing family.

Welcome to NewMomHealth.com™

We envision a world where every woman receives the social, emotional, physical, and economic support she needs to successfully transition through the postpartum period and into her new identity and life as a mother. Health care systems, businesses, and society should value and respect women not only for what they bring to families, communities, and nations but also for who they are in and of themselves.
